Chapter 7 || Deserts, Waheep and adventures
This next leg of our journey brought us to Waheep, Arizona. It was BONKERS hot here. Whilst setting up camp, the tent poles became to hot to handle sans gloves after about 5 minutes. And poor Jake, (our loyal Toyota Tundra) became scalding hot. This was the first time we were acutely aware of how our surroundings could kill us if we weren't careful. Well, maybe not kill, but definitely get ill. We drank so much water, were slathered in sunscreen and wore our adventure hats, not only for fashion, but for protection.
Sleeping in the desert sucks. It is so hot, but I for one enjoyed the whole experience. Camping in the desert was on my bucket list, so that is now scratched off. Swimming at Waheep RV & Campground was amazing. The water was insanely warm, but cooler then the air, so we were grateful for the chance to cool down. Plus delicious popsicles helped too.
The following pictures are our journey from Moab to Las Vegas. Vegas gets its own blog post, because it is just so mindbogglingly surreal. On our journey to Vegas, Google took us through Mount Zion National Park, which was beautiful and windy and took forever to drive through. We also found the best spot ever (by chance) to picnic on the back of Jake. It was excellent. Take note of the tiny ATV in the first image and the cars or people in others, to truly understand the scale and grandeur of these formations.
Thanks to my lovely partner for snapping the first three images whilst I was driving. And to Jake, for being a very expensive tripod for the family portrait.
